The most obvious forms wher you can notice this is within any web based email prorgam that you may be using such as Yahoo, MSN, Aol and others. If you notice the ads that run on these sites, 90% of the time they will be geared directly to you in a fashion based on previous searches that you may have done.
If by chance you end up on this site when searching about affiliate links or affiliate programs than I would almost bet that one of the ads that run on this site whether on the top or right hand side will have an ad that is related to recent searches you have done on your computer.
Now as a Marketer I have always been fascinated by how advertisers were able to reach me and my computer in such a fashion. This is mainly done by the cookies that are placed into your computers internet browser when you are on sites such a google or yahoo doing searches. However there is also a very alarming and scary factor to all of this wonderful technology.
One of the newest ways in which advertisers are peaking into your every move online is by utilizing your service providers such as Comcast, Timewarner, or AT&T by gaining access to your online browsing history as well as real time browsing. There are countless reports online about how your service providers are opening door even wider every day to market and advertise specific products that you have been searching for.
This can obviously be a huge invasion of privacy issue, however it appears that if you read the fine lines of your contract this may be mentioned in one fashion or another. Currently there are several laws that are in the process of either being passed or have passed that may be giving these companies even more room to invade our privacy.
I apologize for getting off subject however all of these items are intertwined and it is important to understand the full scope of affiliate marketing, online searching and your service providers.
